WHAT DOES IBDS ADVANCE EDUCATION IN?

The Iraqi British Dental Society is aiming to advance oral health education of the general public in the UK.  This includes the provision of free oral hygiene instructions, dietary advice, as well as, enhancing the public practical skills in the maintenance of healthy wellbeing.  This will be achieved through organising public dental awareness campaigns and working in partnership with other dental charities such as ‘Smile Again.

Furthermore, IBDS will also promote and facilitate the advancement of evidence-based dentistry and promote dentists, students, and trainees clinical and personal skills. This is through holding national scientific conferences, and providing online mentorship for members.

IBDS PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATION

IBDS delivers oral health awareness campaigns to vulnerable groups such as the homeless, refugees, and asylum seekers, as well as, general public. The society arranges for members including dentists, nurses, and dental students to visit shelters, rehabilitation centres, community venues, and schools in various regions of the country to promote dietary advice, oral hygiene instructions, cancer detection, and smoking cessation support.

The campaigns are aided with education materials such as leaflets, dietary sheets, and charts. Other equipments are also include the provision of toothbrushes and toothpaste.

IBDS NATIONAL SCIENTIFIC MEETINGS

LONDON | CARDIFF | MANCHESTER 

Striving to promote the quality of service provision of dental care to the public, IBDS facilitates the continual clinical, academic, management and personal development of dental care professionals, students, and trainees through holding National Scientific Meetings in London, Cardiff, and Manchester on a four-monthly basis. Dental professionals from all backgrounds are given the opportunity to present their clinical cases, research analysis and clinical audit to endorse evidence-based patient care. The meetings are organised over a period of one or two days to include hands-on workshops, seminar, and lectures given by renowned speakers. This exchange of knowledge is critical in the appraisal of the scientific literature and review of current practice in order to implement further protocols in dental healthcare excellence.

IBDS MENTORSHIP SCHEME

IBDS aims to facilitate the mentorship of dental care professionals and students through the exchange of professional expertise on one platform. IBDS Mentorship Scheme’ provides clinical, academic, management, and personal support for members leading to improved quality of patient care.
